Glencoe, South Australia

Located on a picturesque landscape of South Australia, Glencoe is a typical quaint town with few but significant touristy things to see and do. The city is approximately 25 km from the Mount Gambier district.

Initially, the township has two main provinces such as the Glencoe and Glencoe West. Presently, there is only one province of Glencoe.

The city of Glencoe is popular for its pine tree plantations; hence, the local industries include a large number of paper production mills and sawmills. Apart from that, the city also has an abundance of cattle firms and diary firms. Paper production, pinewood and cattle farming are the three main and strong parts of Glencoe’s economy.

Renowned as the pioneer of the pastoralists and pastoral firming, the city of Glencoe boasts a number of old woolshed areas. The city had numerous unique and old-fashioned shearing / wool shed areas, where the wools were produced in a conventional way without any mechanized shearing process or tools.

Today, these areas are converted into a museum showcasing some artifacts and original techniques of shearing and wool handling methods. Visitors come here to see these historic buildings of woolsheds, their typical architecture and arched Blackwood beams and numerous artifacts and pictures of the old-style shearing process stored unscathed since many decades. Truly, the Glencoe Woolshed is a remarkable spot to visit in South Australia.

Apart from these museums in Glencoe, you will find several vineyards, art galleries, tranquil parks and gardens as well. Nearby points of interest in the neighbouring towns include those numerous attractions and activities in the Limestone Coast area.
