The existence of a Furner Township in SA was originally proclaimed in the year of 1886. Gradually, this small South Australia town in the east developed and became economically strong with various small establishments such as a council office, hotels, school rooms, the Kintore Inn and a general store in the year of 1889.

This historic town was named after a member of Wallaroo, Mr. Luke Liddiard Furner. Mr. Furner was also the Commissioner for Public Works. Furner is a not a renowned tourist destination of South Australia.

Many people often mistake Furner’s Kangaroo Inn with the kangaroo island of Cape Du Couedic. However, this small town of Furner also boasts the original Kangaroo Inn and offers a number of outdoor fun and scenic drive opportunities for the guests. The original Kangaroo Inn is a beautiful setting located opposite to the local Kangaroo Inn school area.
